Between $500 and $900, every additional dollar should go into the rod and line — so that's what we did. What you're giving up at this price
- Keeping the Liquid S means giving up some machined-reel refinement — the upgrade path is there if it bothers you.
- The Foundation is faster than the Classic Trout; very new casters may find it less forgiving at 20 feet.
- USA blank, but overseas components keep the price down — that's the compromise that makes it $550, not $1,100.
